WAX
As an encaustic artist I like to say I paint with a torch. I love the alchemy of taking wax, pigment and fire and creating deep, textured, luminescent surfaces. My work is all about layers, seen and unseen, contained and breaking through. Depth, mystery and becoming—like the alchemical process—is a big part of my work. The grid work that appears in my work is also about a force pushing forward, while providing a holding for the energy that needs to contained in order to be understood. There is a visceral quality to wax that creates a sense of immediacy and compelling engagement for the viewer.
